Praise & Worship |
Praise and Worship plays a major role in our services. Freedom in worship is accommodated and encouraged. Many will pray and thank God audibly during times of corporate thanksgiving and prayer. Some will pray silently, expressing little outward emotion, while others will weep openly before the Lord communicating their love and adoration in tears. Regardless of style, each sincere expression is welcomed.
Other expressions found during worship time may include: Hand clapping and raised hands. In everyday culture clapping your hands is not uncommon - whether it is for your favorite team or for a job well done by your children or friends. In the same manner we believe that it is completely acceptable for us to clap as a sign of adoration to God - showing pleasure in Him and His work in the church. Raised hands during times of prayer is an expression of surrender to God and His will, or giving thanks to Him for His wondrous deeds and grace seen through the lives of others. These visible expressions are not for show, but rather as avenues for communing with God (Psalm 47:1; 134:2).
We consider worship to be more than singing songs, clapping or raising our hands though. We believe we are to live our lives as an act of worship. Every aspect of our lives should be honoring and giving glory to God for the many things He's done and is still doing in and though us. The first record of worship is found in Genesis 22:5 where Abraham instructs his servants to stay with the donkey while he and Isaac go to the mountain to "worship." This is not singing songs but rather going to the mountain to offer Isaac as a burnt offering to God. God intervened, stopped Abraham, and provided a ram for the sacrifice. God honored Abraham's faith and willingness to slay his only son Isaac. Isaac was God's fulfillment of His promise to make many nations of Abraham - yet Abraham trusted God so much that he was ready to kill his only son. This degree of devotion is not merely the result of singing songs to God, but rather the result of a lifestyle of complete surrender to and trust in his Heavenly Father.
